As a member of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) I received a communication from them today announcing that last week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention added physical inactivity as a risk factor related to COVID-19. In the announcement, Bob Sallis, M.D., FACSM says, “Though late to the party, I am happy the CDC has finally acknowledged the overwhelming data proving that exercise is an important medicine that can protect the public from severe COVID-19 outcomes. Unfortunately, the addition of this information to the CDC website was not publicized in any significant fashion that I can see.” So we have been asked to help spread the word.
Of course physical activity is huge for recovery as well as prevention. The email included a handout titled, "Returning to Physical Activity after COVID-19." You can view or download below. If you or someone you know has had COVID-19 and are ready to get moving again, this short handout from the ACSM has some specific suggestions.
